Here is my 97 4runner Limited 4WD with rear differential locker. This is the most recent picture I have of it.(5/8/01)
Mods in this picture include: low profile bug guard, clear corner lenses, and clear bumper lenses all from Performance Products, also a grill insert from the 99-00 4runners. Future modification planned here is the front valance offered by Performance Products. I just recently painted all of the gray pieces on the grill insert to black. It is not all that noticeable unless you are looking at the truck in person. It really makes the chrome standout more, and it matches the rest of the paint on the truck.
Here is a closer look of the insert painted black. Notice how the Toyota
emblem stands out so much more now.
When I bought this truck back in March of 1999, it had the gold emblems
on it. They were a little too flashy for me, and I decided to order chrome
emblems to flow better with the chrome bumpers.
Now here is the back passenger door on my 4runner. Notice the custom mounted Alpine tweeter here. I had it mounted flush. Now this is the most important stereo modification I can recommend, especially if you are planning to add some bass to your ride, and it is not all that expensive of a job to do either! You will not believe the difference these tweeters will make and the passengers in the rear will thank you for them because they will not be drowning in bass back there any longer. Also pictured here is part of the wood trim kit that I ordered from Jason Burtman. You will see more pictures of the kit as you continue to scroll down.
This is the CVA-1005 monitor from Alpine.
The monitor is actually the lower unit in this picture. The section where you see the up and down arrows, the open/close button and the mute button is actually the monitor. It slides out and then flips up when you press that (open/close) button, or you can have it set to auto open and close upon start of the vehicle. The unit above the CVA-1005 is the Alpine DVA-5200. It plays DVD Video, CD-Rom Video and also Audio CD's. One flaw of the DVA-5200 is that it will not play CD-R's. That led me to buying a 6-disc Alpine CD changer which I had mounted in the glove compartment for easy access. In the future I am going to add the Alpine NVE-8517A DVD Navigation system.
Here is the 6 Disc changer. I wanted it where I could reach it very easily. I debated on whether or not to sacrifice the glove compartment, but I went ahead with it. I do not regret having the changer there due to its convenience.
This is an amplified 10" Bass Tube that I had installed. It provides plenty of punch for my needs.
Here is a good picture of the wood kit that I bought from Jason. I already had a factory wood finish in the 4runner, but I wanted more. The black pieces around the gear shifter and 4wd shifter definitely needed some character. I could not believe the difference that this kit made, and also the quality and ease of installation on the kit. The kit also covers the black areas of the dash around the steering wheels, door handle trim rings, and also around the ac/heating vents up front.
I just added the Bilstein shocks from Performance Products, which are more heavy duty than the TRD Bilsteins. What a difference!! The ride on the 4runner is so much better now, and it is hardly any stiffer. It takes speed bumps, potholes and other bumps in the road with much more authority than the stock configuration did on my 4runner. It feels so much more stable in turns, I can really push the vehicle through turns a lot quicker and more comfortably than I have been able to in the past. I highly recommend these shocks. This picture was taken after I was doing a little pressure washing to the underbody.
I have also added a highly sophisticated alarm system to this vehicle
for obvious reasons. The system includes starter disabler, digital LCD
display for system status and other programmable features, remote start,
remote power windows, and digital paging (if the alarm is tripped).
Another thing I have done is adding heated seats. It really makes a
difference in the winter.
